I started tracking for our next album at The Deer Lodge (link below) last weekend.
I was able to lay down scratch tracks for 11 songs.
So far:
Fell Into the Sun (just wrote this, proudly references Freddy Fender's Wasted Days and Wasted Nights as well as my own Pearls and Swine)
Take a Walk (a faster version than the one posted here, '60s pop)
Never Tends to Forget (I have 2 great versions of this and can't decide between the slow waltz and the Crazy Horse)
Brazil (finally a studio version of the great live take posted here, with Sam Henry on drums)
Always Sad (been knocking this one around for a year or so- still not sure about the bridge)
Love Looks Like a Master (I have a really tight recording of this that I did at Collapsible Studios in Asheville with The Unholy Trio; can't find it)
597 Guerrero Street (again, there's a very pretty version of this from that same session...somewhere)
Machines (an oldie- I've written dozens of different versions of this, but Jose has a sweet Roy Orbison flavored beat he came up with that I think we'll be going with)
Poison the Well (a re-write of The Unicorn Song, unlikely to make final cut)
The Judas Table (this is also brand new, loosely based on the Bush/Cheney debacle- timely!)
So it's begun. There are a few more that I want to play live with Jose. Hopefully I'll have an update soon.
Stay tuned!
